DHD V3 Site Launched!

I have decided that the DHD website was in need of a re-vamp! My last design was designed in my final year University back in May 2008. I have done a lot of new client work, and some of my own projects in the last year.
I have had 3 different attempts to re-design my portfolio but paid client work keep taking my time... and I wasn’t complaining!
So here it is, the new DHD website. Please let me know what you think... Take a look through my projects and see what I have been getting up to over the last year!
I hope to update the folio section every couple of months, so keep an eye on it!
Awarded the Official EUROPRIX Quality Seal

On Thursday I received an email from Rainer Steindler, one of the Project Managers from EUROPRIX Multimedia Awards.
He emailed me to congratulate me on being awarded the official EUROPRIX Quality Seal.
My project, The Best of Belfast had been selected from 333 entries from 31 countries and only 69 projects received the quality seal.
I had entered the competition about 3 months ago, after getting an email encouraging me to enter The Best of Belfast as a project.
I am really delighted and it is the 2nd award that The Best of Belfast has picked up in just over a year.
Lesson to be learned - give it a go, nothing to lose and you may be surprised!

Chris Murphy and Nicholas Persson, (two wonderful lectures I had at UU) were recently interviewed on the popular web blog, Six Revisions. .
There were interviewed about their recent new release, ‘HTML and CSS Web Standards Solutions: A Web Standardistas Approach’. This is a really great book on promoting web standards, especially within education. I would recommend it to anyone who is starting to learn the ins and outs of web standards design.
On into the interview, Chris and Nick were asked about some of the young designers they taught. Lee Monroe, Paddy Donnelly, myself and Chris Colhoun were all mentioned.
They briefly mentioned The Best of Belfast. It is encouraging to have a mention here and to be on such a well known blog. Thanks to Chris and Nick.
DHD wins eircom Young Entrepreneur Local Role Model 2009

I was delighted to receive the eircom Young Entrepreneur Local Role Model 2009 for my local area, Newry and Mourne.
I have been recognised by Advantage NI and Invest Northern Ireland for being amongst the most successful and inspirational young entrepreneurs in the area.
The award helped me gain a lot of local and national coverage in newspapers and websites. They also had a a cash prize of £150.
I would recommend any new business to join and get in touch with Advantage NI.
Interview with Spicy Web Designers

Last month I was contacted by Luc Arnold, the founder of Spicy Web Designers and asked to been interviewed for the website.
After looking around the site and recognising some of the designers on there, I realised that it was a real privledge to be asked. So I emailed back my interview and the next day I was surprised to see that I was up on the home page.
I would encourage any other designers who would like to get in touch with Luc, to do so as he is keen to interview more designers. Check out my interview.
The DHD Studio is Up & Running

Over the last few months, work has gone into setting up, painting, constructing and...designing my new design space.
I was delighted to get set up last Thursday and start a new chapter in the design company. For photos go to DHD on Facebook.
Winner of the 'Interactive Design Award 2008'

I was delighted to be awarded the 'Design Award 2008' at the Belfast Art College Degree Show on Monday night.
I was chosen by my design Tutors, Chris Murphy and Nicklas Persson from the many other final year Interactive Multimedia Design students.
Professor Ian Montgomery presented me with an ipod Touch, I am thrilled to have received this prize.
DHD 3D Render featured on the BBC News Website

The exciting, new launch of the Vantage Seating System with Delta Airlines and engineering firm, Thompson Aero Seating, meant that both companies got coverage from T.V, Radio and Newspaper.
I was happy to see the BBC News Website also had a write up on the story, and even more delighted when I saw a sample of my 3D work next to the article!
Showcased in International Magazine

Aircraft Interiors International Magazine recently published an article for Delta Airlines on the new Cozy Suite, designed by Thompson Aero Seating.
This 3-page article had a number of my renders featured, including a full A4 picture of the seat. Not only does this magazine have a world wide audience, it is one of the most popular editions as it is released just before the European Expo.
